Group cruises
How group cruise organizer credits work
General information, not a quote or contract. Cruise line, tour and hotel policies vary, and your proposal confirms the actual terms.
Many cruise lines reward the person who fills a group with a credit toward their own fare. In the industry it's usually called a tour conductor credit, or TC. The rules vary by line, so treat everything below as the common pattern, not a promise.
How a credit is usually earned
The typical formula is one credit for every 8 cabins, or 16 paying guests, in the group. A group of 16 cabins might earn two credits. Some lines set the bar higher, and some count only full-fare guests.
What the credit covers also varies. On many lines it pays the cruise fare for one berth, and the organizer still pays taxes, port fees and gratuities. Others give a credit worth a set amount instead.
Ways groups use the credit
The credit belongs to the group, and groups use it in different ways:
- The organizer sails free or close to it. The most common choice, and a fair thank-you for the person doing the work.
- Split it across the group. The value can lower everyone's fare a little.
- Raffle it. Some clubs raffle the cabin to raise money or reward a volunteer.
- Pay for an event. Some groups put the value toward a private reception.
Decide how you'll use it before you announce the trip, and say so in the announcement. Members are more comfortable when it's out in the open.
What can reduce or cancel a credit
Credits are usually calculated at final payment, not when cabins are first booked. If cancellations drop the group below the threshold, the credit can shrink or disappear. That's one more reason to track the release date and final payment date closely.
Other organizer perks
Beyond credits, lines sometimes offer the organizer onboard credit, a cabin upgrade, or a cocktail party for the group. Larger groups have more room to ask.
Ask before you announce
Because the terms differ by line, ship and sailing, ask what your group would qualify for before you share the trip with members. We include organizer benefits in every proposal, so you know what you're working with. Start a request when you have a rough group size.

Payment plans available
Travelers can spread the cost of their trip into smaller payments between the deposit and final payment, so more of your members can say yes.
